General Oper Conduct: Do not give yourself ops or use powers in channels unless requested by owners or in "extreme cases" where a channel is breaking rules. Opers have to set an example for other users. Opers will not take part in mass zooming, harrassment, spamming, or other activities that are often looked down upon in the IRC community. Respect your fellow Opers and their opinions. If you have a disagreement handle it like adults. Don't call each other names. NEVER start using your Oper powers against each other. All decisions are made as a group, nothing is simply "your business" when it is about the use of Oper privileges. Just like any other user, if someone bothers you, ignore them, ban them from your channel(s), use all the basic tools given to you as a regular user. We do not kill/ban or punish users on the network for disliking you. Opers with access to the Services do not drop channels or nicknames "for fun" or to punish a user. All the rules of the network are also applicable to Opers, including ones against ban evasion (except for in extreme cases). You will not avoid bans to punish or annoy a user. We do not tell users how to run their channels unless there are server rules being broken (ie the spread of child pornography). Avoid doing things to users that will result in an attack on the network. Be polite. Be fair. Do not get involved with personal fights among groups of users. Do not lie to other Opers to get users removed. G/K:Lines: If there is a serious problem with a user that is breaking the rules or otherwise abusing the network you can remove them. You must however be prepared to explain your actions to the other Opers. NEVER use G/K:Lines for fun NEVER use G/K:Lines just because you are angry or just don't like someone The #Support Channel: This channel is for support of users only. Rules that apply to users in the channel also apply to IRCops (don't bring personal/channel fights there, don't use public scripts, etc.) Do not bring Oper discussions about the server or disagreements between Opers to #support, these discussions are kept to #Opers. Sometimes users will come directly to us with problems. Always mention in #Opers what you have done to remedy "situations" with people, so we all know what is going on. Do not abuse or taunt the users asking for help, even if they ask the most obvious questions or you happen to dislike them. We do not kick or ban users from #Support unless they are breaking rules (like using annoying scripts) Global Messages: It's very important to keep global messages to a minimum. If Opers use them too often then users will start ignoring them and they may miss important messages, in light of this: They MUST be use only to report important information directly relating to the server, including scheduled server outages and upgrades, and additions/removals of servers. They will NOT be used for "fun" messages They will NOT be used to say "hi" to your buddy They will NOT be used for personal gain or "spamming" IMPORTANT: You are responsible for all the powers you use as an Oper, and must be prepared to explain your actions. This includes the use of global messages, g/klines, and the handling of "situations" with users All complaints from users about Opers abusing their powers will be investigated. Breaking of these rules may be grounds for Oper and/or Server removal. The senior admins reserve the right to adjust and add to these rules when they see fit.
